2401. Jews, Arabs, and the Modern World
Introduction to the major political, cultural, and religious debates faced by Arabs and Jews as they positioned themselves within and against European models of modernity; consideration of how conceptions of “the Arab” and “the Jew” took shape in the modern period; comparison of 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century Arab and Jewish thinkers and social movements.
