Yiddish Tish Discussions
The Yiddish Tish luncheon discussion group is a small, intimate gathering of members from the community and campus who meet monthly to read and speak Yiddish, discuss new topics, and spend time with one another.

About Yiddish Tish
The Yiddish Tish, run through the Center for Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Life, is a relaxed discussion group where students, faculty, and community members come together to explore Yiddish language and literature. It was started in 1982 by Arnold Dashefsky and has remained an open, welcoming space for anyone interested in reading texts, practicing Yiddish, and learning more about the cultural and historical world of Ashkenazic Jewry.
Sessions
Each session centers on a specific reading, often a mix of classic and more modern pieces. For example, the group recently discussed selections from Honey on the Page: A Treasury of Yiddish Children’s Literature. People read together, share reactions, and talk through ideas in an informal way. The Yiddish Tish keeps the tradition of communal learning alive while making Yiddish stories feel accessible, engaging, and relevant today.
The group meets monthly via Zoom at 12:00 pm. The gatherings are announced on the Center’s website events calendar and email. All are welcome.
