Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Middle East Studies

The Institute for Middle East Studies (IMES) at the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs invites applications for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Middle East Studies.

Fellows may come from any discipline in the social sciences or humanities, as long as their primary substantive specialization is in the Middle East/North Africa (to include Iran and Turkey). Candidates should receive their Ph.D. on or before September 1 of the fellowship year, and must be in residence at IMES for the duration of the fellowship period (September 1 -May 31).  Fellows are expected to take an active part in the intellectual life of the institute, including giving a research presentation and attending other institute events. This position offers a salary of $45,000, medical benefits, access to the GW library system, a computer, and office space. The fellow may also be invited to teach an M.A. level course at the Elliott School in an area related to his/her research.

Join ieiMedia Program as a Faculty Research Fellow

Get a grant & join us next summer.  Communications faculty members may receive a $3,000 grant to attend one of our programs. Observe and take part in ieiMedia’s experiential learning, boot camp teaching, short-term programs, and intercultural reporting. Fellowships available for courses in Italy, Israel, Turkey, France, Spain, and Northern Ireland.

Leo Baeck Institute, Fritz Halbers Fellowship

The Leo Baeck Institute awards 1 or more fellowships to PhD students who have research projects connected to the culture of German-speaking Jewish people. Supported by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Program provides funding for doctoral candidates pursuing research into the history and culture of German-speaking Jewish people. The Fellows agree to submit a brief report on their research activities upon conclusion of their fellowships.

Ralph I. Goldman Fellowship (RIG) in Global Jewish Leadership

The Ralph I. Goldman Fellowship is JDC’s premiere leadership opportunity, awarded to one person annually, for young Jewish thinkers and doers — writers, artists, policy shapers, business innovators, and community builders. The fellowship is a paid, professional opportunity to live and work in several overseas locations where JDC is active, providing an inside look at JDC’s global operations though individualized assignments.

Each fellow works with JDC staff to identify and design their unique overseas placements, shaped by their skills, interests, and critical needs of communities overseas.

Qualifications include:

  • Professional achievement in the candidate’s chosen career
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Strong interest in international Jewish affairs and public service
  • Knowledge of foreign language(s) is a plus but not a requirement
  • Formal and/or informal Jewish education is a plus but not a requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree and proven academic excellence. Master’s degree a plus but not a requirement.

Center for Jewish History Upcoming Fellowship Program

The 2015 research seminar on Archival and Historical Research is a four-day program for rising college seniors, MA students and first- and second-year doctoral students to learn the skills of conducting archival research at one of the premier research libraries in the United States. It will welcome students from various disciplines including history, Jewish studies, literature, religion, politics, sociology, anthropology, as well as area and regional studies.

Eligibility

Applications are welcome from rising college seniors, recent university and college graduates, MA students, and PhD candidates in their first two years of matriculation.

Application Guidelines

  1. Cover letter that briefly addresses your interest in participating in the research seminar, knowledge of foreign languages, and previous use of archives or special collections.
  2. Three-page proposal addressing why you would benefit from participating in the Center for Jewish History Seminar and how the seminar fits in with your long-term goals.
  3. Curriculum Vitae.
  4. One letter of recommendation from a faculty member.

The Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace – Post doctoral fellowships

  • For research in the areas of:
    The Contemporary Middle East
    The Contemporary Global South (Africa, Asia, Latin America)
  • And for research on the themes of:
    Advancement and Maintenance of Peace
    Peace Economics
    Media, Conflict and Peace

Preference will be given to research in these fields that focuses on the Middle East and the Global South since the late 20th century. Grant Amount: up to $15,000

The fellowships are intended for those who hold a PhD degree by 1.10.2015 and up to five years after receiving their doctorate. Only candidates who have submitted their doctoral thesis by 31.12.2014 may apply.

Postdoctoral Fellowships with The Interdisciplinary Centre for the Broader Application of Genizah Research at University of Haifa

The Interdisciplinary Centre for the Broader Application of Genizah Research at Haifa University is offering new fellowships for Post- doctoral researchers in the academic year 2015-2016. The candidates will join the “Aggadic Midrash in the Communities of the Genizah Project”, and will be obligated to dedicate their time to the project goals, as well as publications.

The fellowships are intended for applicants with outstanding academic records and proven abilities in the relevant fields who meet all the requirements to qualify for post doctoral programs at the University of Haifa. Applicants must have experience in the field of Aggadah and midrash. Preference will be given to those with background in related literatures and/or in Judeo- Arabic. Competence in related data bases, including the Friedberg Genizah Project is an advantage. Fellowships are contingent on qualifying for The University of Haifa institutional fellowships or state fellowship for New immigrants (olim) or returning academics. Interested parties are asked to submit their CV and contact the Centre’s coordinator to receive the relevant application forms. The Israel Institute – Doctoral Fellowships

The Israel Institute awards graduate fellowships to Ph.D. candidates in an effort to support outstanding research on Israel-related topics. Israel Institute Doctoral Fellowships are two-year fellowships that provide stipends of $10,000 per year for students at American universities and $15,000 per year for students at Israeli, European and Asian universities. The Institute Doctoral Fellowships are open to doctoral students who are working on Israel as a primary topic of research and also to candidates whose focus is more broad but whose work incorporates an Israeli dimension as a case study in a comparative work. The Israel Institute hopes to bring greater attention to Israel as a topic of advanced study and research across many fields and to encourage new and diverse perspectives from a wider array of graduate students.

The Honors Core epitomizes Honors education with smaller class sizes, active learning, and increased academic rigor. Teaching a Core course is fun and challenging!
